POPULAR RUSSIAN COURSE RETURNS TO WHALLEY

Following the great success of last autumn's course, another series of Russian for Beginners lessons will be running at Whalley Village Hall this summer. The seven-week course begins on Thursday 7 June and will run weekly until 19 July; classes will be held at the usual time of 6.30pm - 8.30pm.

Once again, the course is being delivered by Whalley man Simon Kerins, a fluent Russian speaker with a unique passion and enthusiasm for the language. Simon says:

"As with my previous courses, this one will ensure that, after seven weeks, if the learners suddenly found themselves in Moscow or St.Petersburg, they would be able to get by in Russian! The language is rich and exciting and, despite significant alphabet differences, it is not actually the most difficult of languages. The incentives to learn it are there for people of all ages; for some, it can lead to career advancement whilst, for others, they can practice what they learn when out there on their travels.

In addition to the learning opportunities, the course also provides a great opportunity for social interaction. The last course was underpinned by great camaraderie, which has led to the formation of lasting friendships."

Whalley Pickwick Committee would like to express gratitude to Whalley Chamber of Trade and many other supporters of this event, who earlier this year, came to its’ aid and raised funds for it to go ahead again this year. The First Whalley Fashion Show, held at Mitton Hall raised £1,700. And many other people donated funds.
